Thomas R. Cincotta

Since Thomas R. Cincotta joined the law firm in May 2002, he has brought his characteristic compassion, enthusiasm, and client-centered approach to his practice. Following a tradition of "lawyering for the people", Thom Cincotta has applied his background in labor and community organizing to develop a strong foundation in criminal defense and public interest law.

Thomas grew up in a suburb of Boston, Massachusetts. It was "back East" that Thomas attended the College of the Holy Cross, where his concentration in Peace & Conflict Studies nurtured a commitment to helping others and making the world a better place. Upon his graduation cum laude from HC in 1993, Thomas earned the George W. Hampsch Award for campus work in peace and justice.

Prior to earning his law degree from the University of Denver College of Law in 1999, Thom Cincotta worked as a Union Representative for Local 217 of the Hotel & Restaurant Employees and Bartenders Union (H.E.R.E., AFL-CIO) in Providence, Rhode Island. At the University of Denver, Thomas led the student chapter of the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) for three years and later served two terms as a regional vice-president for the Southwest region of the Guild. He currently performs the role of Treasurer for the Colorado Chapter of the NLG and speaks at trainings in nonviolence and civil rights. Thomas acted as the Managing Attorney of Colorado Legal Services Migrant Farmworker division in 2000, providing representation to workers in housing, immigration, and employment matters.  He is currently a member of the Board of Directors for El Centro Humanitario para Los Trabajadores, Denver's first immigrant day laborer organization that defends the human rights of day laborers.

Thom Cincotta focuses his legal practice on criminal defense, with a strong emphasis on the defense of juveniles. During law school, Thomas interned with the state Public Defender's office in Douglas County and also volunteered with the Death Penalty Resource Center. At Kurtz & Peckham, Thomas represents clients in traffic, misdemeanor, felony, and post-conviction cases throughout the Denver metropolitan area, including Adams County, Arapahoe County, Aurora, Boulder County, Broomfield, Denver County, Douglas County, and Jefferson County. He is licensed to practice law in Colorado state and federal courts. He is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, Denver Bar Association, Colorado Criminal Defense Bar, Colorado Progressive Coalition, and Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition.
